THE AIR WAS FILLED WITH THE BEAT OF DRUMS and dancing feet as the
Illinois State Museum held its fourth “Celebrate Cultural Diversity!” family event in February 2010.
Nine local cultural organizations and individuals provided displays as well as hands-on activities, learning how to play African rhythms on Djembe drums and other percussion instruments, including Shakeres, Kalimba (thumb piano), and Agogo bells.
The Museum would like to thank all of the individuals and cultural groups who made this event a huge success including Fashion Afrique, the Islamic Society of Greater Springfield, Jacksonville Juneteenth Ujima Inc., the Roman Cultural Society, Sokol Polish Dancers, Springfield Jewish Federation, St. Anthony’s Hellenic Orthodox Church, Peruvian Productions, and academic year in the USA.
